EnergiaForum 10 and Energia 10
- main event for energy industry
taking place in October in Tampere, Finland
Climate sensitive energy solutions
EnergiaForum, Finland’s largest and most important professional event
in the energy sector will be arranged for the 11th time in October 2010 in
Tampere. The energy industry faces challenges but also expanding market
opportunities. Prospects for development in the energy industry are tremendous
and new innovations are continuously developed. The forms of application of
bioenergy, for example, will increase significantly in the future.
The background for the growth of the bioenergy sector is laid by the EU
targets according to which 38% of Finland’s end use energy consumption must be
covered by renewable energy by 2020. Biofuels will have a central role in
achieving these targets. Finland is a large bioenergy user and has strong
knowhow in this sector. The Finnish boiler engineering industry, for example,
utilizes bioenergy and has reached a good market position in the world.
Global markets for new bioenergy products
Until now bioenergy has been used at a relatively low efficiency. In the
forest industry it has been considered mainly a secondary material flow that
needs to be eliminated. However, according to Risto Raiko,
professor of the department of Energy and Process Engineering at the Tampere
University of Technology, new bioenergy applications will rapidly increase along
with the Biofinery concept. Thanks to new innovations, finite sources of
bioenergy can be utilized at maximum efficiency.
– The forest industry has a central role as a processor of bioenergy. In the
future, the forest industry will process bioenergy to create new products, such
as fuel and raw materials of the pharmaceutical and plastic industries. The
value of these new products is much higher than that of traditional pulp or
paper. Thus the forest industry will improve its productivity and achieves new
competitive advantages in the global market.
Finland has strong bioenergy knowhow
The demand for ecological production and products increases at fast pace
since the global market wants non-oil based raw materials. Finland needs to
carry out continuous development in order to utilize bioenergy in a versatile
way. Extensive projects are continuously going on supported by Tekes (the
Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) for the development of
biofuels. The Tampere University of Technology is strongly involved in bioenergy
research.
– For example, we have valuable cooperation with Stanford University.
In USA, bioenergy is only just being introduced and the Finnish bioenergy and
combustion research is very highly valued there. We have exchanged research
personnel with Stanford University and already six of our people have had an
opportunity to work there.
Extensive review of topical energy themes
Wind power and many other topical energy themes are discussed at the Energia
10 – Energy Fair. The event gives an excellent opportunity to network with the
professionals of the industry, get acquainted with new technologies and find
partners for improving energy-efficiency and productivity.
– Based on the registrations received so far, the tradefair hall will be
filled to capacity by the exhibitor companies, tells Nina
Nurminen, a project manager responsible for the tradefair sales.
Energy market, nuclear power, EcoCity, sustainable city and energy
infrastructure development
This year the main themes include the energy market, production and
distribution, power plant systems and equipment, automation, engineering and
building, and operation and maintenance of power plants. Topical themes include
renewable energy forms and new energy innovations, nuclear power,
energy-efficiency, use of waste as a source of energy, carbon dioxide recovery
and storing, and the new EcoCity theme presenting solutions for intelligent,
sustainable city and energy infrastructure development.
EnergiaForum 10 gathers energy professionals under one roof
The Energia 10 tradefair is a part of a large cluster of events called
EnergiaForum 10. Besides the tradefair, EnergiaForum includes the traditional
Energy Day and Energy Congress including various seminars and information
sessions. The closing celebration of Energy Day, the traditional dinner on
October 26, gathers together the management, decision makers, professionals and
other influential people in the energy industry. On the days to follow, the
Energy Congress with almost 50 expert presentations continues the discussion on
the energy market, sources of renewable energy, nuclear power, power plant
technology and condition monitoring, and the technologies of the field. A
novelty in this year is a seminar dealing with wind power.
The tradefair is organized by Expomark Oy. The organizers of
the training events are the Energiafoorumi (Energy Forum of
Finland), the Finnish Maintenance Society Promaint,
KP-Media Oy, Energiateollisuus ry (Finnish Energy
Industries), FORATOM and Pöyry Finland
Oy.
